Gigantor Technologies Appoints Frank Thiel as Chief Technology Officer

August 12, 2025 Jeffrey Cook

August 12, 2024  Gigantor Technologies, a pioneer in real-time AI acceleration solutions for the Edge, today announced the appointment of Frank Thiel as its Chief Technology Officer.  Thiel, a semiconductor industry veteran with over 40 years of experience in creating innovative products, will lead Gigantor’s technological vision and development as the company continues to redefine the boundaries of AI on the Edge.

Thiel joins Gigantor Technologies from Kolvenier Solutions, the company he founded to provide specialized semiconductor, communications, and medical IoT consulting to startup companies. His extensive background also includes leadership roles such as VP and General Manager for Microsemi’s Mixed Signal & RF IC businesses, and VP of R&D at Zarlink Semiconductor. He is also a lead mentor at The University of Texas Austin Technology Incubator and an advisor to Silicon Catalyst, the world's only incubator focused exclusively on accelerating solutions in silicon. Thiel holds 18 issued US patents and has a proven track record of bringing groundbreaking products to market.

"We are thrilled to welcome Frank Thiel to our leadership team," said Don Gaspar, CEO and Founder of Gigantor Technologies. "Frank's deep expertise in semiconductor design, strategic product development, and his strong track record of innovation are precisely what Gigantor needs as we scale our unique GigaMAACS technology."

"I am incredibly excited to join Gigantor Technologies at such a pivotal time in the AI revolution," said Frank Thiel. "Gigantor's innovative approach to AI acceleration, particularly with GigaMAACS, has the potential to fundamentally transform industries from autonomous systems to medical imaging. I look forward to working with the talented team at Gigantor to push the boundaries of what's possible in AI and deliver disruptive solutions to the market."

Gigantor Technologies has developed and patented GigaMAACS technology that addresses critical limitations in Edge AI by enabling real-time processing of high-resolution, high-frame-rate data with near-zero latency and ultra-low power consumption. The technology converts existing machine learning models into optimized, zero-overhead parallel pipelined circuits, accelerating performance without altering model results.  According to Gaspar, “GigaMAACS will have a seismic improvement in AI acceleration for the military and commercial computer vision edge computing. We see tremendous demand for its application."

Raúl Camposano, Partner at Silicon Catalyst, an incubator for semiconductor solutions, added, "Frank Thiel is a highly respected figure in the semiconductor industry with a keen eye for disruptive technologies and a remarkable ability to execute transformative products."

Gigantor was the winner of the 2025 Arm + Silicon Catalyst Startup contest and awarded $250,000 in Arm technology credit towards a commercial tape out.
